Evaluation Center for Teacher Education completed

18.11.2024

The evaluation of the Center for Teacher Education was concluded with implementation discussions and agreements between the Center and the Rectorate. Particular attention was paid to the three key evaluation topics agreed in advance: (1) Embedding and organizational structure of the Centre, (2) Profile and coherence of teacher education at the University of Vienna and (3) Research profile of the Centre.

As part of the evaluation, the center initially carried out a self-evaluation. In December 2023, an on-site visit by international peers chaired by Professor Roger Erb (University of Frankfurt) took place.

Overall, the reviewers rated the performance of the Center for Teacher Education in teacher education and research very positively. "Both the report and all the interviews show an extraordinarily high level of commitment and a high degree of identification with this important area on the part of individuals and the university as an institution. The overall impression is that the University of Vienna and the Center for Teacher Education are very well positioned to fulfill the numerous tasks in the field of teacher education. One important development is the Doctoral School of Education, which is recognizable as a strengthening of research in the teaching profession. After years of building up the center, there is now an opportunity to focus more on this task."

The peers' written report addresses the focus topics in detail and provides suggestions for further development. The Rectorate discussed the evaluation results in detail with the center management. Many expert suggestions for improvement were included in the implementation agreement. The agreed measures are monitored as part of the target agreement process.
