Legal Foundations

The quality assurance system of the University of Vienna is based on the following national, European and university internal laws, rules and regulations.

  • 2002 Universities Act
    Quality assurance at Austrian universities was enshrined in the 2002 Universities Act (section 14 Evaluation and Quality Assurance).
  • University of Vienna Organisation Plan
    According to the Organisation Plan, in strategic objectives the Unit for Quality Assurance advises with the Scientific Advisory Board of the University. 
  • University of Vienna Statutes 
    The section of the University of Vienna's Statutes governing quality assurance outlines the principles, the responsibilities and the goals of quality assurance. The part of the Statutes that deals with the form and extent of the graduates' involvement at the University lays down that graduates of the University of Vienna are to be invited upon graduation to give their opinions, based on their own experiences, about the studying conditions and the course contents and to make suggestions for improvements.
  • Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area
    The standards set out agreed and accepted practice for internal and external quality assurance in the European Higher Education Area. The guidelines explain the standards and describe how standards might be implemented.

Data Protection

The use of personal data at the University of Vienna is regulated in works agreements:

  • University of Vienna framework agreement on the use of the personal data of employees
  • annex to the University of Vienna framework agreement on the use of personal data of employees for course evaluations
  • University of Vienna agreement on the use of personal data of employees regarding the academic profile of the University Vienna and its employees.
